SQUARE

After only 2 years, the construction phase of the HSG Learning Center is complete. The scaffolding has been removed and the exterior is being landscaped. Until the opening in February 2022, the building will be furnished and the AV technology installed.

Two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the construction phase of the HSG Learning Center is complete. Designed by Sou Fujimoto Architects, the building will house new forms of teaching and learning beginning with the spring 2022 academic semester. Opening ceremonies will take place the weekend of February 12 and 13, 2022.

Development of the HSG Learning Center
At the end of 2016, the HSG Foundation committed to realizing the HSG Learning Center and the first funding partners were approached. The cantonal government of St.Gallen signaled its agreement and provided the required piece of land for the construction of the HSG Learning Center. Eight renowned national and international architecture firms took part in the 2017 architecture competition. The office of the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto won the competition with the project “Open Grid – Choices of Tomorrow”. The building application was submitted on January 18, 2019. Six months later, the building permit was issued and on November 6, 2019, the University of St.Gallen and the HSG Foundation celebrated the groundbreaking of the HSG Learning Center with numerous guests. The laying of the foundation stone followed in May 2020 and now the construction phase could be completed on schedule at the end of October 2021.

Since June 2021, the “Intendanz” has been working on the concrete formats and the program that will take place in the HSG Learning Center starting in the spring semester of 2022. Fundraising is also proceeding successfully, passing the 60 million Swiss franc mark in October 2021. The total fundraising goal is 63 million francs and will be targeted by the opening in February 2022.
